Identifying Shopify Bargain Hunters in Drip (with free workflow)
One of the most powerful and fun elements of marketing automation is getting creative with how you segment your audience based on how they interact with your business, and then to personalize your communications with them.
Within ecommerce marketing automation, this occurs within the framework of: 1. behavioral trigger -> 2. contact tagging (optional) -> 3. segmented communication framework.
In this article I’m going to share a really nice (and simple) workflow in Drip (my favorite marketing automation platform for ecommerce) that identifies so-called “bargain hunters” - or customers who are receptive to discounts - and then tags them as such for future outreach.
Bargain Hunter workflow deconstructed
This workflow is triggered when an order is created AND the customer has used a discount code for that order.
From there, we create 2 custom fields in the contact record: 1) discounts_used and 2) discounts_sum. Using liquid, we increment discounts_used by one and then add it to discounts_sum to get a total of discounts used.
Once discounts_sum reaches 2 we then automatically tag the user with the Customer - Thrifty VIP tag.
This tag then can be used to segment future automations or broadcasts to customers who we know are sensitive to discounts and offers.
Import the Discount Hunter workflow
You can import the workflow into your existing Drip account with this importable template.
Oh yeah, it’s totally free and works out of the box. Enjoy!
